Camera Phones Banned at Base Kings Bay

What was once affordable to high-end mobile phones users only is now available to virtually everyone. Camera phones now saturate the market and are as common as the Camden gnat. As first reported in The Periscope in April 2005, camera phones were banned from the Waterfront Restricted Area and other sensitive areas on base. If you have one, it is best to leave it at home or it won't be yours any more.
During a three-day span last week the Security Department confiscated over 20 of these phones in restricted areas on the lower base.
''Chances are if you get caught with a camera phone in your possession, you will lose your access badge,'' stated Lt. Cmdr. Richard Tucker, Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay security director. ''If you are a civilian, you will no longer have a job. If you are military, you are looking at captain's mast.''
Official camera passes are required for all photographic equipment, including phones, in sensitive areas controlled by Strategic Weapons Facility Atlantic and Trident Refit Facility. Equipment must be for official use or no passes are issued.
If a pass in not produced, security will confiscate the equipment as well as film or memory cards associated with the camera. A criminal investigation will also be launched. Tucker said camera phones are not allowed in the lower base.
''It is simple, follow the rules and everything will be alright,'' he said. ''If people choose not to follow the rules they could end up paying a big price.''
New technology is important to all branches of the military. New weapon systems on Navy ships and submarines are essential to keeping them mission ready to deploy at any given time. Sensitive information must be protected.

eBay Mobile Phones

Enter eBay. Now, it isn't news that eBay is great for getting all kinds of used goodies cheap. EBay brings buyers and sellers together for all kinds of merchandise, from priceless collectibles to ordinary household items to pieces and parts of almost anything.
But more and more -- and you active eBay users have all seen it -- eBay is becoming a low-overhead electronic "mall" for a new breed of retailer. These retailers focus on individual merchandise categories -- such as cell phones -- and make markets for products in these categories. Most of these retailers are small "mom-and-pop" operations as you would expect. But some aren't so small. Manufacturers themselves -- sometimes in disguise -- have learned to use eBay to sell their refurbished units.
Low overhead, refurbished merchandise, and in many cases, competitive bidding. Bottom line: You can get a great deal. You can get an upgraded replacement for just under half the retail price. Here's the rest of the story.

Palm Treo 700p

Palm Treo 700p is the latest in a now long linage of Treo smartphones. The Treo 700p combines the benefits of a full featured mobile phone with the Palm OS mobile computing platform. From a visual perspective the design changes are small, evolutionary refinements of a proven smartphone form factor. Most of the improvements to Palm's flagship smartphone come in the form of new software innovations, a big boost in memory and fast, broadband like data speeds.
Beginning with the large aerial bulge, the top of the device contains the memory expansion slot, IR window and the famous silent mode switch and the stylus silo. The silent mode switch now vibrates when activated, giving you a physical confirmation when engaged. Compared to its successful predecessor, the Treo 650, the 700p has a much darker grey plastic casing with with a more subtle silver finish. On top front of the device above the screen are the LED and phone earpiece. The LED on the Sprint version now only blinks when you have a waiting notification alert such as a missed phone call or voicemail and remains on when charging. Curiously, the Verizon version still retains the old behavior of inanely blinking to indicate network status.
