Telcel Expands Mobile Service

Telcel, Mexico’s leading provider of wireless communications services, launched a service that will stream TV over mobile phones, Cellular News reported on Thursday.
Telcel officials told the local daily Milenio, that the company will be testing HSDPA technology for live streaming in 2006, with a launch likely some time in 2007.
Rival operators Iusacell and Unefon also plan to launch TV over mobile services in June, Iusacell offering live streaming and Unefon - which has broadcasting rights for Soccer World Cup clips - offering downloads on demand, the report said.
The Mexican market with nearly 100 million people has been witnessing a 40 percent annual growth in the number of mobile subscribers, thus making the country one of the most lucrative new market areas for mobile services today.
